Eid Festival
Second of the cultural festivals at Stockton International Family Centre was the Eid-ul-Fitr an Islamic festival. Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the two great Islamic festivals, the other being Eid-ul-Azha. Its importance can be judged from the fact that Almighty Allah Himself ordered the believers to celebrate it. It is celebrated at the end of the month of fasting (Ramadan) and has a special significance for the Muslim society.
The festival like the Jewish festival was well attended again by Mayor of Stockton Jenny Beaumont, Councillors,119 Adults,14 children from Year 6 St Cuthbert’s School, Stockton on Tees and representatives from the thirty BME groups in the Borough of Stockton on Tees.
The Eid festival was facilitated by Salim Baksh representative for Westbury Street Mosque, Thornaby and Hafiz Naeem Sadiq from Hartington Road Mosque, Stockton.
This was followed by religious hymns by local children. There was also a 3 course Muslim meal served for all who attended. |
