BME Network
At present there is no BME representation at Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) level, therefore no influence in decision making process.
We need to find the best method for BME groups to work with the LSP.
The action taken was:
- Identify how many BME groups exist in the borough of Stockton
- Understanding of representation from BME perspective
- Send out questionnaires to all BME groups
There have been 30+ groups identified by Stockton International Family Centre some formal some informal but within their rights a group.
Findings the groups say:
They want to form a Single Network from members of BME Groups and to call a meeting to form a single Network. The groups want to elect their own member(s) to sit on the Network and then eventually the Network to work with LSP.
An inaugural meeting was held at the Stockton International Family Centre on the 24th February 2005 which 25 people attended and the first formal BME Network meeting was held on the 30th March 2005.
BME Volunteer Awards Event
The event was done in partnership with Stockton Voluntary Development Agency (SVDA) and Stockton International Family Centre.
The aim was to increase the visibility of the achievements of minority ethnic communities and individuals, and the positive contribution they have made, and are making to our society by volunteering.
All the people who had taken part in the Black and Minority Ethnic Volunteering Project were invited to the event and were presented a Certificate of Participation. There were also awards for 3 categories which were: Volunteer of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year and Volunteer Group of the Year.
There was a variety of entertainment on the evening, Bhangra Group, Navrang Dance Group, African Drummers and the Awards Ceremony
